James M Robb Colorado River State Park

April 18, 2021

We left Spanish Fork, Utah and headed on across into Colorado. Of course, through the mountains! Lots of mountains out here LOL. Today's were lots of scrub grass, creosote and sage bushes, rather like being in the desert but quite a lot higher. You would from time to time come across pockets of evergreen trees. The changing environments never cease to amaze me. Speaking of changing environments, you travel through the mountains then suddenly you are in flat lands, then up ahead once again the mountains. Love the contrasts, sure keeps the ride interesting. This stretch was relative an easy ride, well, except when traveling through some of the flat lands and would come across those winds. Boy, have we hit some winds, sure can get Dexter rocking a bit.

Found this wonderful pullover to stop for lunch!

As we neared our destination we went through the area known as Grand Mesa, oh my!

Our backyard for the night

Our destination was James M Robb Colorado River State Park in Palisade, Co. This is right outside Grand Junction. James Robb was a civic leader and visionary, leading the development of this state park which consists of five unique sections. Together the sections are known as The String of Pearls. We stayed in Island Acres section. BEAUTIFUL. Right along the Colorado River and surrounded on three side by gorgeous rocky mountains. Smallish in size, well laid out. You have plenty of room to spread out with the sites arranged so you have the feeling of some privacy and good views. There is a day use area with playground, picnicking, small lake, and a walking trail completely around it all with connection to the Colorado Riverfront Trail System. We were there only the one night but would definitely go back and spend more time. Sitting there just being, surrounded by such beauty, yeah that's what this is all about.

Not bad views eh!

Tomorrow, another adventure!
