Southern Trails RV Park

This one is late getting posted as we had no cell service and very limited internet the past couple of weeks. So this is actually from 12/19/2019 through 12/26/2019 Maybe I can get all caught up this week!

Southern Trails RV Park

Slowly we are working our way through Georgia. We stopped for a week at Southern Trails RV Park in Unadilla. Unfortunately, it's parks like this one that are giving campgrounds bad raps. I do believe at one time this would have been a great place and a lot of fun. It hasn't aged well, and needs lots of tending that doesn't seem to be a priority to the owners. It is next to a large horse park and stables, Southeastern Arena and that was a highlight, getting to see all the horses and even watch them playing. That was fun. It is possible that at one time the campground was part of the arena or at least had horses on site. There was a metal circular training and pony ride type structure. We of,course, had to look over the top to see what was in there now and well, a lot of junk including a old rusted out car. The campground was depressed at best, run down, neglected and is now the permanent home to a large number of lower income people living in Rvs. And now there is nothing wrong with that except in this case many of the RVs were in as bad or worse shape than the park. The sites were neglected, those not taken up by live ins, some with the electric boxes missing and just a strip of grassy area in a large field. Not the most inviting appeal. I will give it points for friendly staff and a clean bathhouse. Fortunately we did not pay a lot to stay there or we probably would have asked for a refund and gone somewhere else.
It is part of Coast To Coast which is a membership club, one we got with the purchase of the RV, and you can stay at their many campgrounds around the country for only $10 a night. So for that, well, we dealt with it. It was a great place to help mend my ankle as the park and surrounding area was flat. The roads right around there were quiet backroads that saw little traffic, so we got some nice bike riding in. Couple of other high points to the stay, there were a lot of Pecan Trees there which have interesting shapes without their leaves, got some great photos. There were the horses next door, a decent miniature golf and on the propriety was a small pond with ducks we enjoyed watching.

We enjoyed a quiet Christmas reflecting on our time on the road.

Would I go back? Only if we were in the area and needed a place for just a night or two. But I did get some decent photos anyway.

The next stop is one I am excited about. See you all at Okefenokee Swamp National Wildlife Refuge!
And yes I am hoping to see Alligators!!!

My favorite view was this tree outside our window

Great ole Pecan Tree

Beautiful Sunrise

This wonderful tree had a squirrel living in it.
I wasn't able to to a photo with him in that hole but saw him there several time!
