Falling Water State Park, Chipley, FL

Falling Waters State Park certainly lived up to its name in several ways. First, it rained occasionally for two days. The water did come down. But the beautiful 74 foot waterfall that gives the park its name was the highlight of our stay. It was running quite strong and cascaded into a large sinkhole. This is Florida`s highest falls and it was wonderful to watch. Visitors are actually standing in a larger sinkhole while near the falls. The limestone underneath has allowed the area to become home to various size holes.

The Trail Less Traveled
But of course we had to!

There were several trails which took you through different sections of the park and were easy to walk. A biking trail went through the park and several miles outside to a small lake area and was very nice for riding. Inside the park was a lake for fishing and swimming. Also, one of the trails passed a capped oil well from the early 1900`s which never really worked out.

The campground was clean and quiet and the staff very friendly. Nice bathrooms and showers too. A nice place to stay and maybe come back to.

A little something odd though. There is a spot in the park where you can pass from the eastern and central time zones. Watching your phone change time back and forth while moving about was really unusual. But lots of fun.

A different type fun was watching the park maintenance crew cut down several trees that were damaged and a danger. Some they did with a chainsaw, but others were notched then pushed over with a tractor. Never saw that before.

This is our last Florida stop, finally, on to Mississippi!!

Old Town Campground

February 20 – 24, 2020

Old Town Campground in Old Town, Florida was a good place for a short stay. It was older with many long term residents and offered no amenities. Even walking was limited to one loop around the camp and there were no trails. The surrounding area was not easily accessible, no shoulder on the roads, and very run down. But we did have full hookups and it was quiet at night and everyone was friendly.

The highlight of our stay was checking out several carvings on some of the trees in the camp. The old man's face and the manatee were very artistic. Unfortunately they had been carved during a previous owner's time and we couldn't get the story behind then. Reminded us of the Walrus and the Carpenter but sure looks more like a manatee. But overall, just a place for a short stay on our journey. Would we go back, no, not unless we just needed a place for a night or two.

Teri's Note: One of my highlights was a beautiful black cat. Each time we walked around the campground he/she would come running over to me to be petted. Melted my heart, so tempted to scoop it up and take it with us. I didn't, but boy, I wanted too!!

Bee's RV Resort Fun!

Due to having little to no internet service we are quite behind in posting updates. Hopefully, we will be able to get several up over the next couple days.

Our week stay at Bee`s RV Resort in Claremont was one of our more interesting campground visits. We arrived in the midst of what seemed total chaos in the park. There were several campers checking in and crowds everywhere. Turns out this is probably pretty normal for here. On this day there was a health fair from a local medical center as well as all the daily activities going on. We were wondering what we had gotten into. And after checking in, we found our site to be very bumpy and a little tight. We were not sure how happy we were going to be here. But happily things got better quickly. After a little adjusting our site was not so bad and our neighbors were friendly. Then we discovered that Bee`s is always that crazy busy, but in a good way.

Every day there are activities and special events being held. They have a pool and all the regular outdoor games, as well as walking trails. But bingo, poker and various live music events spiced up the place. We enjoyed an ice cream social one day and walking tacos(you have to try this) another. An all you can eat chicken dinner, my kind of meal, was Tuesday and was yummy. Teri even got to do some dancing!

There were plenty of wonderful birds to see on the trail and around the lake. Egrets, cormorants and sandhill cranes were everywhere. A large hawk made an appearance every day right near our rv.

The friendly staff and the many things to do soon turned our opinion from unsure to quite happy. This is a place we would like to experience again. We also enjoyed a visit from our daughter Karen, her husband Ralph and our youngest grandson Brandon. They were on vacation and we loved seeing them.
